Building 搭建


Intro ︎ 简介

As part of a larger programme for green spaces, UAL planned to open a dye garden in September 2022 in the ‘Playground Garden’ adjacent to the building on Wilson Road. The dye garden will be a space for students and staff from across all years and courses to come together to garden, make dye and more. In order to achieve the goal of a long-term, sustainable, flourishing. The garden design and the making of the planters are innovative, fun design ideas on how with a small budget and some hand tools can create something special.

UAL计划于2022年9月在威尔逊路（Wilson Road）校区的春季社区中心广场 （Spring Community Hub Playground）开设一个染料花园。染料花园的设计要求在小预算的条件下，运用简易的工具以及有限的材料，为学校学生和员工打造一个以扎染为主题的空间。同时作为绿色空间项目的一部分，空间以可持续发展的理念运作。


Idea Development ︎ 构思设想

The planters are planned to be adjacent to the CCW foundation building on Wilson Road. The site may need to be returned or used for other purposes. So the planter has to be movable.

染料花园坐落于UAL-CCW预科大楼附近。因为场地属于社区用地，在未来将有可能改建或用于其他目的。为了减低交还场地时搬运的困难度，种植台要求设计成可移动的。


Sketches 手稿

The site is also a popular place for rest and socializing. Therefore, the design integrates some display and storage functions so that the planters can also provide some support for the site.

场地也是受人喜爱的休息社交场所，所以在设计时也考虑融合一些展示功能和收纳功能，让种植台在平日也能帮助场所的运作。

Building Process ︎ 搭建过程

There is a list of materials given before the build stage that is available for construction, so the way to build has to be simple. I was thinking of an easy way like IKEA style to build with wood-treated timber, which allows people to build with simple tools.

提供用于种植台打造的材料以及工具有限，所以搭建方法要求简单易学。于是在设计阶段参考宜家的拼接方式以及手册绘制出种植台的搭建方法与流程。

搭建现场支起一个简易的工作区域，用小型切割机裁切木头并现场拼接安装。最终在志愿者，指导老师和我们设计师的一同努力下顺利完工。

All of our builders set up a simple working area, where we can use a small timber-cutting machine and assemble pieces on-site. In the end, it was successfully completed with the joint efforts of volunteers, advisor and designers.

Planter ︎ 种植台

The Planters are always kept near the wall when not used and were placed in the garden during the event period. It has both storage and planting functions.

没有活动举办或者需要清场的时候，种植台总是放在墙边；在活动期间则按需要排布在花园里。它兼具储存和种植功能。

Planters not only can be used to plant, but they can also be for storage (seeds and planting tools) and sitting.

花盆不仅可以用来种植，还可以用来储存种子和种植工具，甚至能用作座位。

Dye Garden Taster Workshop 染料花园体验工坊

The Dye Garden Taster Event involves planting, planning/research and dyeing activities. People are planting plants which will be used to make the dye material.

染料花园体验工坊让学生参与体验种植、染料研究和染色活动。种植植物将被用来制造染料。

These plants will be transplanted into planters when they are bigger.

因为染料苗体型过小，所以在学生将它栽培并培育长大后才会移栽到户外的染料花园内。
